Thanks Tim for the comment! At the end of the day, we have to define our own success and how we want to get there, especially for those of us whose personal lives are so tightly connected with our professional lives. :)

Brandon, great post! I'm with you - the pressures of the VC/IPO can make otherwise successful entrepreneurs feel inadequate if they haven't attracted multiple rounds of financing or exited. I agree with you, starters have to stay true to themselves. It is easy to get caught up in the "race" -- which is driven solely by $, but for those of us making a great living doing what we love, are we really missing anything? At the end of the day, I'm not going to evaluate my life on how much money I made, rather on the great friends I worked with, the awesome projects and problems I solved, and what positive impact my companies have had on others overall. Thanks again for your honest post.

How do you deal with font texture tiling? It just cuts straight through my outlines and shadows.

Hi Miyudreams,

Hmm not sure what the problem is. It could be because of the different Unity version, as this post was written when I was using Unity 2.6. Were you able to solve this problem?

This might help: http://forum.anbsoft.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=98

Hi, when I try to follow the instructions to Save Font Texture with the "font Texture" selected. I get an error:

UnityException: Texture 'font Texture' is not readable, the texture memory can not be accessed from scripts. You can make the texture readable in the Texture Import Settings.UnityEngine.Texture2D.GetPixels (Int32 miplevel) (at C:/BuildAgent/work/6bc5f79e0a4296d6/Runtime/ExportGenerated/Editor/Graphics.cs:1035)UnityEngine.Texture2D.GetPixels () (at C:/BuildAgent/work/6bc5f79e0a4296d6/Runtime/ExportGenerated/Editor/Graphics.cs:1029)SaveFontTexture.SaveFontTexture () (at Assets/Editor/SaveFontTexture.js:27)

I tried creating a TextureImporter:

var texImporter = TextureImporter.GetAtPath(texFile) as TextureImporter;

Where texFile is:

var texFile = AssetDatabase.GetAssetPath(tex) as String;

But the file reads the ttf file, which doesn't have a TextureImporter, but a TrueTypeFontImporter component.

What should I do to fix the problem?
Thanks

Hi JoeDGrant,

Thanks for the comment! I posted this a while ago before I tried Blender 2.5 and I should have updated the post long ago. After some initial bumps here and there, I am now using blender 2.5 almost exclusively! Most better interface which makes it easier for beginners to get started with it. I'd love to watch the video tutorials you mentioned. I'll PM you on Unity as well. Thanks again!

Hey there. XSI user switching over to blender. I found the learning curve on blender 2.4 to be... well.. steep.
Blender 2.5 has a new option that actually made it workable for me, which was the ability to switch it over to maya hotkeys. On the splashscreen, next to interaction model, choose 'maya'
Also, blendercookie.com has a load of great tutorials, many of them free.
http://www.blendercookie.com/2010-blender-training/
This is what I used to get up to speed on it, took me from knowing 3d (rather well, I must add) but not knowing blender, to using blender as my major 3d package, replacing xsi and silo.
Silo is a great package with a few major bugs (Such as randomly collapsing my entire mesh to a single vertex from nothing, not even light, can escape) that were just game breaking for me.
I've got some video tutorials I can share as well, if you'd prefer em. PM me at the unity forums, JoeDGrant
